St Paul's Girls' School, London

Main contractors

Internal strip-out, demolition and structural alteration works across three floors of St Paul's Girls' School.

Project overview

R.E.B Group was appointed to undertake a package of internal strip-out, demolition and structural alteration works at St Paul's Girls' School.

The works spanned the lower ground, ground and first floors, involving the removal of redundant internal fixtures and finishes, demolition of selected partitions and the formation of new openings to facilitate the school's wider refurbishment works.

Scope of works

R.E.B Group's package included:

  • Formation of new structural openings, including the installation of precast concrete lintels and specified temporary supports
  • Demolition of selected internal partitions and corridor walls
  • Removal of a mezzanine floor and spiral staircases
  • Removal of internal doors, a kitchen and selected glazed screens
  • Removal of flooring, suspended ceilings and associated finishes
  • Strip out of designated staff rooms, offices and religious study areas
  • Removal of selected fixtures, fittings, pigeonholes and loose furniture
  • Waste management, cart-away and site clearance

The challenge – coordinated multi-level works

A key consideration was coordinating the strip-out and demolition activities across three levels of the building while maintaining a clear distinction between areas included in the works and finishes that were to remain.

The project also involved forming structural openings and removing elements such as the mezzanine floor and spiral staircases, requiring careful sequencing and the use of specified supports where identified.

Effective logistics planning was essential, with scaffolding, a scaffold chute and suitable skip arrangements required to support the works and manage demolition waste efficiently.

Our approach

R.E.B Group developed a coordinated scope covering the lower ground, ground and first floors, with demolition and strip-out activities planned as a continuous operation.

The works incorporated the installation of standard precast concrete lintels and Acrow and Strongboy supports where specified. Coordination with the main contractor was required to align access, temporary works requirements, site protection and waste removal arrangements.

The scope also identified finishes to be retained, helping ensure that removal works remained targeted to the agreed requirements.

Project outcome

The project demonstrates R.E.B Group's capability in delivering multi-level strip-out, structural opening formation and internal demolition works within an educational building.

Combining systematic removal of existing finishes with coordinated structural alterations and waste management, the package supports the next phase of the school's refurbishment programme.
