Accessibility

Last updated 27 October 2026

We want everyone to be able to use this website, whatever device they use and however they use it. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

How we tested it

In October 2026 we:

  • ran automated accessibility checks on every page, on a desktop screen and a phone
  • checked every page at 320 pixels wide, the width of a small phone
  • used the menu, the photo slideshow, the coverage map and the forms with a keyboard alone
  • checked the site with the “reduce motion” setting switched on

What you can expect

  • You can use the whole site with a keyboard. A “skip to content” link comes first on every page, and whatever has focus is outlined in orange.
  • Pages fit narrow screens without scrolling sideways, so you can zoom in up to 400% and the text reflows.
  • If you have asked your device to reduce motion, scroll animations are replaced by still versions and the slideshow changes photos without sliding.
  • Every photo and video in our project galleries has a written description of what it shows.
  • Text meets the WCAG contrast ratios against its background.
  • Every form field has a label, and mistakes are explained in words, not colour alone.
  • Nothing on the site flashes, and nothing has a time limit.

Known gaps

This website partly meets WCAG 2.2 level AA. These are the parts we know fall short:

  • The coverage map. Where jobs are close together, some pins overlap, which makes them smaller to tap than recommended. Every case study on the map is also listed on the projects page.
  • Photo descriptions say what each photo shows, briefly. If you need more detail about a photo or a job, ask us.

This statement covers the public website. It does not cover the content editor that R.E.B staff sign in to. We will update this page as these gaps are fixed.
